Oiwasan Nisseki-ji Temple

 

Oiwasan has long been the most spiritual place in Hokuriku area as the place of prayer to Fudo Myoo.  There are some temples and places of interest such as the National Historic Site, “Oiwa Nisseki-ji stone Buddha”, the Important Cultural Property, “Oiwa Nisseki-ji Magaibutsu Buddha”, the three-storied pagoda, Sanmongate, the six waterfalls and the twelve waterfalls.
 
The six waterfalls were built in the first year of the Meiji era for ascetic training. It’s told that by being hit by the 5.5m high waterfalls, you can restrain the six desires, greed, anger, ignorance, arrogance, doubt and evil thoughts and purify your body and mind.  The waterfall experience is available by reservation only.

The mountain for beginner climbers with the maximum elevation gain of about 400m starts from the trailhead.  It’s easy to climb and you will have the panoramic view of the mountains like Mt. Tsurugi and Mt. Dainichi at the top.

The clear blue Mikurigaike was formed about 10,000 years ago.  It’s a volcanic lake with a circumference of 630m and a depth of 15m.

“Snow Wall Walk” is open for 2 months from mid-April to late June.  The huge snow wall is as high as 20m.

Tateyama Ropeway offers a panoramic view of the surrounding nature.  It’s also called the “Moving observatory”.  You can enjoy a 7-minute ride in the air.
